Split, Croatia: a Mediterranean city and tourist destination
Split is the second-largest city in Croatia and the main city of Dalmatia, on the Adriatic coast. Its historic core is Diocletian’s Palace, a Roman palace from the 4th century that is a UNESCO World Heritage site and still a living part of the city, full of restaurants, shops and cafés.
Tourism is the backbone of the local economy. Visitors come for the sea, the old town, the long Riva promenade and the Marjan forest park, and use Split as a base for day trips to Trogir, Krka National Park and the islands of Brač, Hvar, Vis and Šolta, which are reached by ferry from the port in the city centre. Split Airport and the railway and bus stations connect the city with the rest of Croatia and Europe, and the season is long thanks to the Mediterranean climate with mild winters and very sunny summers.
A prime position: Bačvice
Bačvice is one of the most sought-after residential areas of Split. The apartment is a few minutes’ walk from Bačvice beach, the city’s sandy beach and the home of picigin, and from the beaches of Firule and Ovčice. The Riva and Diocletian’s Palace are a short walk away, and the ferry port, bus station and railway station are close by, which makes the location equally attractive for living and for short-term tourist rental.
Location
- Beaches and recreation: a few minutes’ walk to Bačvice, Firule and Ovčice beaches, the open-air cinema and the workout park
- City centre and transit: a short walk to Diocletian’s Palace, the Riva waterfront, the ferry port and the bus and train stations
- Infrastructure: a medical clinic, kindergarten, primary school, pharmacy and shops are all nearby
- A bus stop is on the street and a public car park is right next to the building
